Dr. Taylor Nielsen, DMD

Clinical Director

Dr. Taylor Nielsen, DMD, brings experience in general dentistry, urgent treatment, and clinical leadership. He founded Emergency Dentist in 2022 after identifying a need for dental care beyond traditional office hours. As Clinical Director, he now provides guidance to a network of seventeen weekend clinics in five states.

After graduating from the OHSU School of Dentistry in Portland, Oregon, in 2018, Dr. Nielsen began practicing in Oregon. He later moved to Iowa and became the owner of Dentistry 801 Grand in downtown Des Moines. Dr. Taylor Nielsen, dentist and practice owner, introduced weekend care at the office before helping extend the model to locations in Iowa, Georgia, California, Arizona, and Arkansas.

Dr. Nielsen’s leadership responsibilities include shaping clinical procedures for dental pain, infections, extractions, and treatment provided during the same visit. He has mentored and trained over 100 dentists. He also developed an eight-credit continuing education course in urgent dental care that is hosted by OHSU.

Dr. Nielsen is licensed to practice dentistry in Iowa and holds memberships with the American Dental Association and the Iowa Dental Association. While Taylor Nielsen DDS is sometimes used as an online name variation, his earned dental degree is a DMD. He also evaluates patient education materials on this website for clinical accuracy, clarity, and usefulness.
